I just finished cleaning this beautiful 100+ year old rug the other day, and thought I’d share with you the phenomenon know as “lazy lines”. You can see a diagonal line in the rug that looks sort of like a tear that’s been repaired - but it’s not. The weaver simply didn’t weave all the way across from one terminal warp, or edge, to the next, but went as far as their arms could reach and then back, moving over and working on the empty space a few rows later. Over time, as the rug wears, these areas show up as you see in the picture, and are a part of the character inherent in older hand-knotted rugs. Sometimes they’ll be partially hidden by soil or stains, and show more easily after a good cleaning, but they’re not a cleaning defect, nor can we repair them out.

You may remember that I am a member of Daybreak Rotary here in Durango, and this year our Western Dance has gone one better - we’ve teamed up with Crossroads Rodeo for our Rotary BBQ, Rodeo and Western Dance! We’ll be at the La Plata County Fairgrounds this Saturday from 4-10:30. BBQ dinner is available from 4-6, then rodeo events from 6:30-8:30, followed by dancing with the Blue Moon Ramblers from 8:30-10:30. There’ll be mutton riding for the young kids, shoe and calf scrambles for kids of all ages, and door prizes for all ages…even dance lessons from 8-8:30 in case you need to brush up on the old two-step.

When you don’t get what you pay for! Case in point from yesterday…

The picture below is of living room carpet that had been cleaned three days previously by a “price-chopper” carpet cleaning company for the tenant moving out.

When the landlord came by to check the house, they were understandably unhappy with the result, and called us to re-do the work. This is what the very same area looked like when we were finished.
